How RTMS helps in Depression?

Depression is a disorder of mood. Clinically presented as unipolar depression or bipolar disorder with depressive episode, it is a disabling condition that makes the patient hopeless throwing him/her into blankness. Along with the medication given by the psychiatrist, neuromodulation, especially in the form of dTMS is a good treatment choice in depression.

Why RTMS?

Neurobiological research explained that a hypoactive left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) or a hyperactive counterpart, the right dlPFC are responsible for depressive symptoms. Also in a few patients, faulty connections in Executive Networks of the brain might lead to depression. RTMS is a safe and non-invasive way to reach to these faulty networks and their connections, and ‘repair’ them!

What is dTMS?

When the applied magnetic field is able to penetrate and produce a deeper and broader e-field inside the brain, it gets the name deep rTMS or simply, dTMS.

Will the repaired network return back after I stop RTMS?

No. Once the faulty or under performing network or target brain area is activated by RTMS, it gets back to its normalcy and starts working better. However, in a few cases where there is familial causes for depression or a chronic disease history or other socio-cultural factors affecting the environment, they might need a second treatment or a maintenance treatment.
